Types of Service Ashrams
The Service Ashram is a group of committed people living together to maximize their ability to serve. By pooling their talents and inspiration, and cutting their collective living costs considerably, many more fruits may come.
This is an idea that is fully adaptable to all kinds of service and all types of locations.
- Focus - one Service Ashram may focus mostly on serving its surrounding community. Another Service Ashram may be primarily focused on web-related work instead. Or perhaps there is a balance. There may be one specific project, or multiple. People may work on their own initiated projects, may help on other's projects, or may simply plug into existing groups or nonprofits. Whatever scenario, focus is important.
- People - a Service Ashram could be comprised entirely of doctors. Another could be made up of lawyers or techies working together or separately to give away their talents. Or it could be a mixed bag of committed people.
- Location - it can exists on a farm, a floor of a city building, a house in the suburbs, a group of huts in a village, etc.
- Hub vs. Oasis - a Service Ashram can serve as a hub - a meeting point for others in the community to work collaboratively on projects, or it can be more of an oasis - a sanctuary from which careful work can be undertaken. Or again, a mix.
