What is a Service Ashram? A Service Ashram is a living space that provides an inspiring and structured environment conducive to maximizing the output of genuine service. The basic living necessities of its core residents - shelter, food, and simple living expenses are provided for to allow its core members to give completely while they are there. Service, in its pure form, is a path of spiritual development. True service is a deeply humble and sincere offering of one's love and care in actions intended to benefit others and the world around, without seeking anything in return. In the process of living this way, one often grows in grace and wisdom. An ashram is a place of refuge and spiritual growth. In addition to service work, there are components like meditation and silence designed to encourage inner growth. The greater the inner growth, the purer the service. Though the term "service ashram" may not be common, there are plenty of examples around the world. The difference here is that we are stripping it down to its essence, removing any particular religious associations or gurus, and leaving it up to each person to dive within, finding their own sincerity, and giving all that they have to give. |
